Tango anyone?

Last evening we ventured out to the Piazzolla Tango Dinner and Show which we had pre-booked from home. We were picked up in a large taxi van from our hotel, which then wound through the city, stopping at seemingly random stops to pick up more passengers. We ultimately ended up in the very different part of this huge city, and were led down a quaint pedestrian street the Piazzolla. We then descended into a concert hall/opulent opera theatre and sat in a dance hall. The host inquired where people were from, and the answers were quite diverse: Bermuda, Brazil, Australia, USA, Mexico, Korea…and Canada. (Un)Fortunately, our luggage did not allow for packing our Tango shoes, so we forgoed the lesson and moved into the dining theatre, to savour some Argentinian wine prior to dinner and the show.

At this point, it was about 9pm and some of us had travelled overnight and slept little on the plane, and then walked about Buenos Aires during the day, so the combination of fatigue and wine, made for some good conversation and laughs. However, by the time dinner was served, we were struggling to remain awake until the Tango show began.

Jody had low expectations of the show, but came away impressed. The Tango dancers were beautiful. The six person band was fantastic, and was led by two accordions!

Upon locating our ride back to the hotel, we boarded the van and road in the front seat and saw the sides of a city that doesn’t sleep. We crashed hard at 1am and slept well to recharge for more Buenos Aires adventures.
